Simpson has to win that!! And in that try he has shown just one reason why he should be in England’s World Cup training squad. At the moment if you had a choice of him Care or Dickson who would you choose?
Wigglesworth 😉
Ben Youngs
player of the six nations for me
But on a more serious note Simpson deserves a shot. he should be involved in the RWC training camps and given a chance to show what he can do
Eh, don’t knock good old Wiggy!! He’s been doing a good job for Sarries over the last few years. At the moment I’d still have him over Care or Dickson. Better kicking and game management!!
I think there’s a few more of the younger scrum halves who should be given a chance next season. Chudley, Braley and Spencer are all top class.
Personally I’d start Youngs with Simpson on the bench. I’d then probably opt for Care as third choice.
Wrigglesworth and Dickson are both good 9s but neither offer any sort of running threat from the bench. And with Youngs being my starter for every game I’d rather have the option to have Simpson or Care off the bench than the other two.
Only one option there – although Walker’s one-handed pick up was pretty good.
Please let SL see sense and get Simpson in the squad!
Joseph’s try takes it for me here. Calm and collected, he recovered from his tackle and caught up with play to receive the pass, his little dink wasn’t made in panic, he knew where he wanted to put the ball retrieved his kick and scored. Pure class.
Whilst Simpson’s try was good, he risked getting turned over and putting all his players off side when he ran backwards (indeed you even see one of his team mates raise his arms to indicate to the referee that he knows he is offside and is out of the game). Had the opposition’s rush defence been better, he risked turning over the ball in his own half giving possession, territory and a strong attacking platform to the other team. Great finish, but a certain amount of luck involved.
Never mind this try, it was his performance against Toulon that should get him in the squad. Toulon with all their superstars couldn’t live with the pace he put on the game…
