If all centre opinions are available for SL then I think that Burrell will be lucky to make the bench, never mind the starting 15. As a Welsh man I would love to see him start as Davies, Roberts or Williams would defiantly highlight his defence frailties.
You mean like they did in the last 6 Nations where Burrell scored a try, made 8 tackles, missed one and overall completely out-played his opposite numbers in the centres that day, who were, if my memory doesn’t play me false…Davies and Roberts
Justifiable disappointment. He was England’s best centre during last years SN.Lancaster needs to be very careful playing fast and loose with players like Burrell, Eastmond,Joseph etc.
They need to feel trusted and wanted, not just expedient to a certain set of circumstances.
Lose their trust now and the next 12 months are going to be very difficult for him.
He was in very poor form this season, and with a short buildup for the series, he’d struggle to adapt to the 13 position (especially since his defensive positioning isn’t that great). During the 6N 36 was covering him a lot and helping him out a great deal. With Eastmond and Burrell there could have been a lot of holes appearing.
Joseph was the form 13, and whilst he runs a different defence for Bath, I think he at least has the wherewithal to know what to do and how to stop the gaps, he can feel justifiably annoyed for not getting picked.
Come the RWC Burrell will almost certainly be in the squad, since he’ll have a very long camp beforehand to once again get familiar with the 13 shirt and it’s requirements.
Must admit the headline had me thinking he was really pissed off about not getting picked – didn’t seem to be the case after watching the video.
He seemed more frustrated that he had a poorly timed injury – which is an understandable frustration.
I’m sure he’ll be knocking on the door come the 6 nations, where he gets picked or not will depend on form.
