  1. Lozowski – Wasps no-hoper to England squad in half a season. Good on him.

Although, as a Saracens fan, I had hoped he could stay and play 10 while Faz is away.

    1. He’s also taken Goode’s spot, as Mike Haley hasn’t made the squad either. Looks like Goode is going to be spending some time at 10 for Sarries!? I hope everyone else in our back line is fit, looks like we’ll be down to third choice fly half and fourth choice full back!!

      1. Although Lozowski is in the squad, doubt he will make the match 23 so should be released to play for Sarries at the weekend

        1. The way he’s been playing I wouldn’t rule him out yet. He has all the attributes that Eddie has said he wanted to see in other players, and he can cover a few positions. One thing’s for sure, we are not short of good fly halves, centres and back three players at the moment.

  2. Pretty much as expected, although I would have had Josh Beaumont in ahead of Harrison. The latter has had a few chances and hasn’t really taken them.

    1. Agreed, yes Harrison had a good game in the ERCC last weekend but he just doesn’t seem to cut it at international.

Hughes most likely to start at 8 but I wouldn’t mind seeing Clifford there either. Seems to have bulked up a bit, improved his carrying and is great at the breakdown.

Reply to “hasn’t really taken them”.
      He hasn’t taken them period!
Other players patiently waiting in the squad for some time now merit a run out. Beaumont being just one that we would like to see more of, others might say Kvesic and i would add Sam Underhill whom EJ could squeeze a look at under the exceptional rule i’m sure!
EJ needs to stop persisting with his pet/favoured/project players and move on.
Yarde would be next on my ‘favourites’ list up for prompt review!

      1. Reply to self:

In fact now that Sam Underhill has signed for Bath (despite not having physically arrived at or played for his new club) he IS now applicable to play for England at long last.
Underhill any day in a month of Sundays instead of Teimana Harrison who has been a disappointment to put it mildly. Why EJ persists only he knows – a sense of antipodean affinity perhaps!

  3. Seems weird seeing the squad without Robshaw, Billy or Mako’s name there!!

    My 23 from this squad:
    1. Mullan, 2. George, 3. Cole, 4. Kruis, 5. Launchbury, 6. Itoje, 7. Haskell, 8 Hughes, 9. Youngs, 10. Ford, 11, Nowell, 12. Farrell, 13. Joseph, 14. Watson, 15. Daly
    16. Hartley, 17. Genge, 18. Sinckler, 19. Lawes, 20. Clifford, 21. Care, 22. T’eo, 23. May

    EJ’s 23:
    1. Genge, 2. Hartley, 3. Cole, 4. Kruis, 5. Launchbury, 6. Itoje, 7. Haskell, 8 Hughes, 9. Youngs, 10. Ford, 11, Nowell, 12. Farrell, 13. Joseph, 14. Watson, 15. Brown
    16. George, 17. Mullan, 18. Sinckler, 19. Lawes, 20. Wood, 21. Care, 22. T’eo, 23. Daly

    1. Agreed, I don’t think we will see Daly there. Brown is my consistent for England and Daly hasn’t been tested at 15.

      Is Mullan/Genge the best available?

Excited to see Kruis and Launchberry in the engine room with Itoje at 6.

      1. Personally I would rather see Daly at 15. Just as good defensively as Brown, very comfortable under the high ball, but with much more pace and better vision. After recent performances I wonder if Eddie will give Loz a shot at 15? Certainly great with ball in hand, loads of pace, vision and great in defence.

        1. I agree he definitely adds something in attack, but is he defensively sound enough to cover FB for England? He might be but we don’t really know.

          1. Eddie has been talking about Daly or Watson at 15 to the press. He said that he isn’t gonna rush and try to Cap Woodward at 15 he rates Mike Brown and would rather give Daly or Watson a go if needed

                1. Ah yes, didn’t realise he was English qualified. Looks like a good prospect though. He might need to move clubs to get a good chance though?

                  0
                2. Yeah his dad is English not sure but his mum might be too
He also has an English girlfriend however that has no bearing on his qualification status

                  0
          2. He certainly looked good there last week both defensively and in attack but as Jake suggests he has had very little experience or exposure there and Cardiff may be a pretty intimidating place to start. At least with Brown you know exactly what you will get and to be fair it ain’t bad.

            0
      2. Think you’ve missed Marler as the other loose-head prop. Given the options, I think he should start with Genge on the bench to keep the experience clock ticking over. I still can’t make my mind up as to what the default centre combinations should be. I’d like to see Te’o get a bit more game time.

  4. I don’t get continued absence of Robson, Care is well past his best (and even at his best he was limited).

    0
    1. Have to agree with you here. Care is not the player he was a few years ago, and was never the full package. Robson offers everything that Care doesn’t and although he may not have the speed of Care, he is certainly no slouch with ball in hand.

      0
      1. yep the persistence with Youngs and Care first over Simpson and now over Robson is baffling.
Youngs on form is great, but his form for Leicester has been poor lately. Maybe he can up his game for England,
Care has great strengths but also great weaknesses, with more balanced players who still pose a significant attacking threat i would have dropped him a long time ago

        0
        1. Youngs always seems to play better for England (a bit like Hartley) and I’m sure he’ll reproduce the form he showed in the AIs, but Care’s selection I still don’t really understand. He’s shown no up-turn in form this season, and there are clearly better options available. Robson, Chudley and Spencer are showing better form than Care at the moment.

          0
        2. Don’t agree at all about Care. I think he is a much better player than he was and has a far more consistent and rapid pass than Youngs. Agreed his form for Quins has been a bit patchy this season, but so has the whole team. He has pace, an eye for a gap and his box kicking has improved. Robson is good but sits in an armchair behind a good pack most weeks and doesn’t look so assured when on the back foot. Would be happy to see a back three of Nowell Watson and May. Haskell will have to prove he is fit and back in form, and George and Taylor are both better than Hartley. Hope Market is fit as I really don’t rate Mullan.
