One of the most interesting parts of playing a fantasy game is compiling the team of the tournament, according to the points scored by players, and comparing it to the more subjective – usually more common sense-driven – teams that sites like ourselves publish (you can view our actual team of the tournament here).
With that in mind we’ve pulled together the top points scorers from the SuperBru fantasy rugby game into an XV. It is important to remember that in the fantasy game wingers and fullbacks fall into the same category, as do flankers and number eights, and all props – so the team might look a little lopsided. What do you make of the XV below? Is it representative of the best players in the tournament?
| Position | Player | Country | Points |
|---|---|---|---|
| Prop | Joe Marler | England | 43 |
| Hooker | Dylan Hartley | England | 42.5 |
| Prop | Dan Cole | England | 41 |
| Lock | Alun-Wyn Jones | Wales | 50 |
| Lock | Paul O’Connell | Ireland | 44.5 |
| Loose forward | Billy Vunipola | England | 84 |
| Loose forward | Chris Robshaw | England | 58 |
| Loose forward | Sean O’Brien | Ireland | 58 |
| Scrum-half | Ben Youngs | England | 65.5 |
| Fly-half | George Ford | England | 132 |
| Centre | Jonathan Joseph | England | 84 |
| Centre | Robbie Henshaw | Ireland | 54.5 |
| Outside back | Scott Spedding | France | 54 |
| Outside back | Jack Nowell | England | 68 |
| Outside back | Stuart Hogg | Scotland | 70 |
N.B. George Ford’s total (as the highest scoring kicker) includes kicking points. Leigh Halfpenny was the highest scoring outside back, but was not in the top three when kicking points are subtracted.
And of course, we must crown the winner of our SuperBru fantasy league! Congratulations to Kit Hobday, Director of Coaching at Kit’s Jumping Jackals, who topped the pool with a whopping 916 points. Kit lead from round 2 and never looked back.
As for our performance here at TRB HQ, Hosie’s Mega Pigeons were in firm contention for a medal until the final round when he chose to drop George Ford as his kicker in favour of Leigh Halfpenny – who duly got injured in the first half. He finished in a respectable 10th place (of 470 participants) while a late tournament surge from Hutch’s Carefree Cobras saw them also finish in the top 20, in 12th.
We hope you enjoyed our fantasy rugby league on SuperBru – we’ll definitely be running one for the Rugby World Cup later this year, so be sure to get involved in that.
