The IRB Player of the Year shortlist was announced today, with Ireland’s Johnny Sexton the only representative from the Northern Hemisphere.
Sexton joins South Africa duo Duane Vermeulen and Willie le Roux on the shortlist, while New Zealand’s Brodie Retallick and Julian Savea complete the quintet.
IRB chairman Bernard Lapasset said: “The IRB World Rugby Player of the Year is one of the most prestigious accolades in rugby and previous winners have all made a significant contribution to the international game over the past decade, inspiring new generations of players and fans.
“All of these nominees have enjoyed stellar years and the focus on who will claim this accolade will add an extra dimension to the remaining November Tests.”
I would say that’s probably the weakest list of players since the IRB Player of the Year award came about.
Where is Mike Brown? He at least deserves a nomination.
It’s a toss-up between Duane Vermeulen and Brodie Retallick, both incredible workhorses in already efficient forwards packs, that inspired their teammates with consistent, stellar performances.
definitely Brodie Retallick, works hard and gives his all
duane vermeulen is the best in the world
