Agreed. Wales were clearly under huge pressure and a try would probably have been scored on at least three occasions but for Welsh illegalities. I thought Wales definitely got the benefit of his interpretations throughout the game, and the more enterprising team won. Picamoles was excellent, as was Guirado. The fact that the Welsh backs failed to score a try again suggests that they are lacking in penetration, and neither the whinging of Biggar nor the sly cheap shots of Webb would encourage me to have either of them on the plane to NZ. The farcical end to this game with the head injury protocol being cynically misused and seven minutes of a yellow card being used up without any meaningful action having taken place did the game of rugby no favours and to be fair was almost impossible to ref without being open to criticism.

I think you misunderstood, from what I can see, they (and I) think Wales got the luckier decisions too. How they didn’t concede a penalty try, or at least another yellow, is beyond me. Not to mention Barnes’ bizarre refusal to stop the clock? A player getting sinbinned after 80 should not be playing for another ten minutes, but most of his time off was spent resetting scrums, and people talking to doctors/the TMO.

What a shame to see such a referee. It is not about rugby but about a man who cannot watch himself in a mirror with his acts during this afternoon .

Missed the match unfortunately but just watched the extended highlights – while I am sure most of the talk will be about the last twenty minutes, I wonder what everyone thought of Vakatawa’s sin-binning? Not sure if there were other camera angles provided at the time, but the official replay clip from RBS6N (below) makes it look like an extremely harsh decision, as his arm is clearly coming in for the tackle. Biggar’s reaction is also characteristically disgraceful and worth a penalty in itself.

The extra 20 minutes had actually pushed that shocking decision from my mind. As a neutral, I could see pretty much no difference between Vakatawa and an incident with J Davies a few minutes before hand. He had his eyes on the player, and swung his arm up to wrap. It was not the best attempt at a tackle, but to suggest Vakatawa knew what he was doing is giving him way more defensive credit that I ever have.

All the fuss about the last 20 minutes is disguising the fact that Wales lacked a cutting edge throughout the six nations. In this game they only created one scoring chance. They have a lack of creativity and only 8 tries in the championship proves this. If they had scored a few tries during this game then the fiasco at the end would not have mattered.

Let’s face it ,it was a dreadful game spoiled by an incredibly bad referee who should be banned from test rugby. A referee is not supposed to coach forwards how to scrummage during the game.One point I would like clarified is why, when the apparently injured French tight head prop collapsed the scrum, Barnes did not award a penalty to Wales. Instead he engaged in a long discussion with the player who did not claim to have head injuries,his officials and the French management ,and agreed a head injuries replacement.It all mystified me and I suspect many others. Perhaps the ru authorities could provide an explanation for these bizarre decisions

John Inverdale, Woods and J Guscott insinuated that it was an extension of “BLOODGATE without the BLOOD.” I think i have to agree.
Blatant cheating at worse or great bending of the rules at best! The ref because it was a ‘medical’ issue had no say in the matter so when the French team doctor comes on saying “sacre bleu..lets have you off mon amie” Barnes could do nothing about it. Barnes will be saying “Not my decision” or a case of “the computer says noooo!”

No complaints at the result as a Welshman, i thought France were the better team. Wouldn’t have complained if we’d nicked the win, and we should’ve. We can trace back the loss of control to the lineout we lost on 74 mins, and Warb’s kick which went dead.
Vakatawa and JD2 both knew what they were doing and both should have been binned – both took wide swinging arcs with their left arms which didn’t look natural to me if they were attempting to just tackle.
The farce at the end of the game.. blatant ‘gamesmanship’ from the French – but it’s difficult to feel hard done by, given we were the architects of our down fall.
I commented to a friend during the Ire v Eng match how good Ireland were from 70 – 80 mins at managing the game. Played where they wanted to play.. Wales are useless at it – if Wales are winning against anyone within 1 score – 70 – 80 mins is always a hang on for dear life scenario.
