Really enjoyed the first half. Italians ran out of steam towards the end, but much better game than I had feared beforehand.
9 for excitement, 5 for quality (lots of errors and a very limp-wristed French side) so average of 7. Italy on this showing are going to make it very tough to beat them – I dont know if they have the actual level to topple anyone (jury out on Scotland for the time being) but, having just come so close in Paris, the Italians must at least fancy a crack at a fairly dour England in Rome. Might be a lot closer than anyone dared to predict.
Very surprised and impressed with Italy. They took the game to France, a little better decision making, a little less (wanton) kicking out of hand. I reckon they will surprise a team or two this season.
I felt I was maybe one of the only people who taught Italy played with caliber against Ireland in the world cup as opposed to Ireland not doing so, and I reckon I was right. It was the game they targeted. Even if they get the wooden spoon this year, I don’t think Italy are the pushovers they once were. I’m expecting more “surprises” from them in the coming weeks.
