Pathetic rugby
A game dominated by France’s heavyweight players. Hardly pathetic. Ireland’s determination to hold on for the win was superb. Not every game is a forty point, chuck it about festival of free running sevens type fireworks.
England V Ireland will be some game.
1. I am not sure who to blame, referee or players, but for a neutral, a game where the whistle goes every 30 seconds is a boring one. 2. Ireland defended well, but the French seem to have lost all their panache, the backs have no idea what to do with the ball in hand.
“Man of the Match” should have gone to Wayne Barnes. Really made his presence felt!

Pape is some cunt. Just seen this headline – “Jamie Heaslip could miss rest of Six Nations with suspected broken vertebrae”

I have to say, not one for the neutrals. Boring slugfest. Not much invention by either side, but Ireland were the better side. What has happened to France – they can’t even pass the ball to each other. Pape needs a ban.
Wayne Barnes is a joker. Just another English hater and there’s no shortage of them in that country. Bigoted, unhappy, sad little haters – most of the rugby crowd there. The world cringes at English fans. Some of the players are ok though, maybe a few
Cheers Mitchell for your insightful comments.
Mitchell, You can use a rugby match between Ireland and France to moan about the English? Marvellous. It’s a good thing there are no bigoted, unhappy, sad little haters in Ireland!
on the match itself, it was a wrestling match, and I’m not sure I can say it was an enjoyable game, but boy was it intense. Ireland have shown in the past 2 years that they just can’t be bullied. I’m yet to be convinced about the midfield combinations, but then we hardly saw them in this game, and last game was with a 2nd choice fly half, and that’s the biggest drop off.
Poor Heaslip, though from what I heard it’s a transverse process fracture, which is no fun, but absolutely nothing compared to the worry I had when I first heard cracked vertebrae.
O’Brien, Heaslip and O’Mahoney are a qulaity back row, and O’Connell is ageless. I think he’s better now that he was 5 years ago.
I’m going to buck the trend here and say that Barnes didn’t blow often enough. Yes, he was whisting every 3 seconds but given the lack of play by both sides at the breakdown, their “gamesmanship” or “nous” or whatever you want to call it, it’s a miracle the game was played with more players than a football match. We were also wistfully remembering the old “10 yards” rule. Murray has such a gob on him he’d have been worth 40 yards per infringement in the old days if a ref had the balls to sort it out. Barnes should have binned a few and then we might have had a game.
I enjoyed the intensity of the match and the will-they/won’t-they aspect of wondering when France might decide to do some moves. Only the once but it was a corker. I enjoyed playing Phillip Matthews bingo – count the amount of times per minute he slyly digs at the ref (“well, I can’t see what he’s seen there…”) without ever quite coming out and full on saying he’s wrong. Ireland never, ever infringe according to Matthews. Even the Best trip was a legal attempt to roll away….
Zebo – I counted 0 passes by him. ZERO. He turned up in midfield often enough to stifle any chance the Irish had of showing any creativity. Each time he rx’d the ball he tucked it under his shoulder? What is he, an 80’s era English forward? A man buying into his own hype I fear.
Bastareaud. Why don’t they just put him at 6 (or 7 in France)? If Kockott is a better 9 than Parra then the world is indeed a strange place.
Don’t think Zebo is buying “buying into his own hype” – think he is doing what he is told to do. His natural instincts are too flash for Schmidt.
