Heyneke Meyer has rung the changes for South Africa’s must-win game against Samoa this weekend, bringing in eight new faces from the team that shockingly lost to Japan on the opening weekend.
It’s all change at half-back where Fourie du Preez and Handre Pollard are called up, while Jean de Villiers is shifted to the 13 shirt and Damien de Allende comes in at inside centre. Willie le Roux and JP Pietersen are brought into the back three.
Up front, there is a welcome return from injury for Duane Vermeulen who starts in the back-row with Schalk Burger and Francois Louw. Eben Etzebeth joins Victor Matfield in the engine room, while Adriaan Strauss is preferred at hooker to Bismarck du Plessis.
