Vern Cotter has named the Scotland team that will take on Italy in Rome this weekend, showing one change from the side that narrowly lost to Wales in the previous round.

Tim Visser has proved his fitness and takes the place of Sean Maitland on the wing, with the London Irish man himself ruled out through injury. On the bench, Rory Sutherland could make his first appearance for his country, while Peter Horne and Ryan Wilson are also in line for their first appearances this tournament.

Really surprised Josh Strauss has been left out the 23. Seems to be back at his best the last few weeks and Denton hasn’t been making the same impact he did at the World Cup.

Other than that, it’s about the best team we can put out. Need Laidlaw to be a lot quicker though, won’t beat the Italians with him slowing every ruck down.

Must win game.

Agree with that Pablito. Unfortunately the pack doesn’t look so convincing. Their back row has been largely ineffectual, and the Gray brothers aside there isn’t really any effective ball carriers. If Laidlaw can get quick ball (and then get it out quick!!), Scotland have a back line to threaten Italy, but sadly I can see the Scots losing this one.
