Can they secure the Grand Slam?
No surprises here. If Billy is fuly fit then he needs to start, especially against Ireland. Stander was not as effective against Wales last week and I expect Itoje and Launchbury will keep him relatively quiet again this week. Nice to see Daly is fit enough to start.
Again the impact off the bench is great from 16 to 23 (well maybe not 19?).
We’ll miss Nowells work rate but I think EJ sees this being a close game and wants Dalys monster boot for the long penalties.
Nice position to be in altering your line up to suit oppositions!
Bit harsh on Nowell but that is a very attacking pair of wingers we have.
Happy with that. With the notable exception of Nowell being benched – as happy as I am to see Daly and Watson starting, Nowell would be one of the first names on the team sheet for me. Have to trust Eddie’s far superior man-management though – maybe he sees Nowell making a bigger impact as a replacement.
Jack Nowell, great as a finisher on the bench for this one. Especially if Daly cannot do 80. Additionally some defence issues from Nowell gave Scots an undeserved try or two last week.
I’ve always considered defence to be one of Nowell’s strengths. Yes he got caught out for the final Scottish try – I would suggest that Ford was equally responsible here; the first one obviously had nothing to do with Nowell; the second Scottish try was very well deserved – you could argue Nowell and (dare I say it) Joseph might have done better here in defence but personally I think the attacker should be scoring 9 times out of 10 from there.
Nowell also hits rucks and wins turnovers, which is a nice bonus to have from a wing.
I suspect Watson and Daly are starting in anticipation of the Irish kicking game. Both players touted as potential full backs…
Billy to stand next to Brown when Ireland kick, give that 126kg a bit of a run up :)
Does that not apply also to Nowell then? I surmise from his Twitter handle – @nowellsy15 – that he sees himself as a full back? Either that or he was 15 years old when he signed up to Twitter, which would make me feel really old…
Very happy with the team although do wonder if its nowell, watson or daly that jones is touting for future fb? Or if he is waiting to see what happens with Haley?
Also
Thoughts on scotlands first try last week and whether it was a system error?
So haskell rejoins defence next to ruck and defence fans out to allow him to join. Seems useful on halfway as players outside are heads up and can predict back moves. Same applies to young defending next to the ruck, halfway as long as the loosehead who has spotted a scrum half can’t offload or run off, if they make a few yards it doesnt hurt.
However with both these on the try line it doesnt work so well. Youngs won’t stop a front row when its a 1 yard battle and haskell has to change his momentum through 180 degrees and not being on a 3 point start to make the tackle. Should the defensive system be adjusted to the previous tackler rejoins at 3rd or 4th man and the scrum half defends inside the winger whilst close yo the line. Potentially with control of the ruck going to the player designated to attempt the jackel if the opportunity arises?
Obviously there are lots of options for scoring when youre on the opposition line, but a single person (no supporting player) pick and go shouldnt be scoring when you have england’s pack.
Any thoughts?
Pobody’s Nerfect.
It is the best team of Six Nations 2017. Hope, they will victory for his country. Thanks
