Super Rugby Predictions 2018: Round 11

Super Rugby Predictions

Super Rugby predictions

Last weekend was somewhat disappointing, as we clearly put too much faith in the Australian teams. Not one of them managed to win, despite us backing the Waratahs and the Brumbies to beat the Lions and Jaguares respectively, at home. We will learn this lesson and move on…

I admit to not having thought too much about the next round of matches having been a little preoccupied with a new baby daughter this week. I also admit to checking the Brumbies v Jaguares score on Sunday morning (and being disappointed!) shortly before her arrival, for which I am slightly ashamed, but that’s what Superbru does to you.

Anyway, here are my predictions for Round 11 of Super Rugby.

Hurricanes v Sunwolves
A nice easy one to start with, and let’s just hope we can get close to the margin. The Sunwolves ‘only’ lost by 22 points away at the Crusaders last week, and the Hurricanes will likely rest some players, so I wouldn’t go too crazy on the margin. Hurricanes by 31

Stormers v Rebels
A rare Friday afternoon game in Super Rugby. The wheels have fallen off the Rebels’ season, whilst the Stormers have never really got going, but you have to back the home team to win this one at Newlands. Stormers by 16

Reds v Lions
What was it we were saying about learning the lessons from last week? The Reds are fundamentally poor, and the Lions should be better. Lions by 13

Blues v Jaguares
Two consecutive wins on tour for the Jaguares feels like a record, but we have learnt that the Australian sides are still awful, and playing the Blues in Auckland will be a very different story. Blues by 18

Brumbies v Crusaders
The Crusaders have won the last seven matches against the Brumbies, and we aren’t even tempted to pick the home side here. Crusaders should win fairly comfortably, with some frontline players likely to be back in the fold. Crusaders by 23

Bulls v Highlanders
This is turning into a good season for the Bulls, now with three wins in a row and another home match to look forward to. But this is a Highlanders side also finding form, and on paper, the New Zealanders really should win. Highlanders by 7

What do you think of these picks? I think it’s GSP time.

  1. Congrats on baby girl.Hope you’re pyama drill fit.

Two teams likely to cause an upset are the Reds
and Jaguares. Jaguares are most likely because the Blues forward play is not up to standard.Reds midfield could pose threat to lions defense.

  2. I amazed myself last week in getting 6 out of 6. Never thought the Aussies were going to win. The guys at my local won’t be happy about that. I have followed your blob from round 1, thank you

  3. Congrats on the bundle. All the best with the poo nappies.

Picks look solid. I only missed the lions game last week. Lesson learned. Your picks look solid. My only convern is Jags. They are getting better every game and the blues are no where near their countrymen. I went Jags as my “upset” for the weekend although im not sure how much of an upset it will be

    1. Hi Darren.
I am happy with your confidence towards Jaguares, they are improving, but they still need to win in New Zealand. I think there will be no surprise this weekend. Regards from Argentina

  4. Congrats on the new addition to your family!

I have similar results picks, apart from Bulls v Highlanders; I’m throwing caution to the wind and going for a (narrow) home win at Loftus.

  5. Congrats on your little Hutchette.

No comments on the article as I haven’t been paying much attention to the start of SR this year.

  6. Congrats on the addition to the family.
The picks looks good although I have the Bulls as my upset pick, i feel like this game against the H’landers will be season defining for them in grabbing the Nr2 spot behind the Lions. Hope I can get my second GSP… #FINGERSCROSSED

  7. Hey Hutch
    Congrats on the little one!!!

Picks looks solid, yet as we have seen on so many previous occasions, it’s only solid when you get that allusive GSP point. I think Blues and Jags will be the deciding factor this weekend…

  8. Lions went to sleep in first forty and woke up to late in second forty. They are simply not the same
squad that reached to Super rugby finals.
The loss of their captain and now departure of Kriel to Gloucester play a major role in the teams disappointing performances.SA rugby due to political reasons and exchange rate is
hemorrhaging players no country can afford and still be competitive at international stage.
Our main competition the Currie cup ,the oldest competition in the rugby world, has now been slashed in half,in order to provide for a more competitive competition.
NZ rugby and to a lesser extent are able to recruit from poorer South Sea Islands to compensate for their player loss due to the lure
of the British pound and Euro. This may be beneficial to local teams, but I have yet to see
this benefit in the French and Italian international sides.
