Sure they have team spirit, togetherness, ‘wolf pack ‘D’ & have upped their tempo, but their astute buying policy includes that of of o/seas ‘mercenaries’, often Saffa, but also other internationals; Maitland, Wyles, Ashton, Stevens, Botha, Brits, Burger, Hargreaves & so on. From times to time they’ve also been accused of having broken the salary cap & as they lost £40m last yr, could this be 1 of the reasons why? Whatever, Saturday showed that they may not necessarily be the ‘Kings of Europe for years to come’ after all.

Sarries have built some very solid foundations which could keep them at the top of the game for years to come. They could be as dominant as Alex Ferguson’s united team and leaves the rest of us needing to up our game

The quality of coaching is top notch and the belief developed by the younger guys coming through from the academy is something to behold.

Some shrewd and intelligent signings year on year have helped to build a team full of characters who know what it means to believe and depend on each player around them, whether starting 15 players, bench players or academy youngsters getting their chance to shine. Looking at the players leaving and the new signings joining for next season, I don’t think too much will change. The main core of the team will still be there and it is those players that will drive the others on.

Kruis, George, Farrell, Wray and Fraser all came through the academy together and with players like Tomkins, Itoje, Henry Taylor, Gallagher, Earle and Isiekwe continuing to push through I think Sarries are in a very healthy position to carry on dominating.
