Toby Booth: Priestland signing will create Farrell/Hodgson axis at Bath

First team coach Toby Booth has said that Rhys Priestland’s arrival at Bath will be good for incumbent George Ford, hoping the competition for places will spur him on

Speaking yesterday about the somewhat surprising arrival of Welsh fly-half Rhys Priestland at Bath, first team coach Toby Booth says he hopes the competition for places will spur George Ford on to greater things, pointing to the way that Saracens use both Charlie Hodgson and Owen Farrell as an example of how it could work.

Rhys is five years too young to taking phased retirement in the manner of Charlie. It suited Charlie to be second choice to ‘Daddy’s Boy’; Why would a 28-year-old settle for that?

I wouldn’t strictly say that Hodgson is second choice. When fit, he is given as much game time as Farrell, and they are rotated. Also Hodgson knew once Farrell was in the England set-up he would become first choice when Farrell is away on England duty. The same could be said for Priestland, as he looks as though he could be falling out of favour with Wales.

I would say that Farrell plays in all of the big games for Saracens, as I assume Ford will for Bath. Preistland is resigning himself to the games where Ford is on international duty (on the assumption he won’t get picked for Wales) and the matches against lower Prem teams. Bit sad for a 27 year old which who should really be about to enter his prime.

Who knows maybe Priestland will surprise everyone and oust Ford as the starting fly half?! No, maybe not as Ford is also a (as TonyTaff put it) “Daddy’s Boy”!

Don’t hide behind innuendo and metaphor. Tell us how you feel about this Enoch?

Please will someone take Barritt off of our hands in return!

Just hope that people can fathom and dissect my very heartfelt views, despite my well guarded literary guile and thoughtful, balanced blogging.

Actually it was inspired by the rejoicing seen across the length and breadth of the land when the real wicked witch from Grantham has kicked the bucket in April 2013.
