The shortlist for the RBS 6 Nations 2015 player of the tournament has been announced – according to the official website, here’s how the list was compiled:
Throughout the 2015 RBS 6 Nations each player has been awarded (or deducted) points based on statistical performance across different action categories that cover all aspects of the game. To ensure fairness, the RBS 6 Nations analysts have weighted the importance of different actions depending on different positions. These categories have been collated to give each player an overall performance score. The top scoring players are listed below in alphabetical order.
England lead the way with four nominations, while champions Ireland have three. Wales, who came so close to winning the championship, have just two nominations, the same number as Scotland, who failed to win a single game. Italy’s Sergio Parisse makes his yearly appearance on the list, while France don’t have a single representative.
Who do you think was the player of the tournament? Have they missed anyone off the list that should have been on there? You can visit the official site to cast your vote, but do so in our poll below as well and leave your thoughts in the comments section:

I’ve just lost the will to live! Who organised the Y&E or Goldman Sachs?
What ever happened to packets of crisps – pints and a pen down the pub?
It’s a team sport – not soccer – dump this along with MOM awards.
Or just let Parisse and Hogg share it – poor bastards!

Can not believe that Sam Warbuton is not on this list. Don’t have a problem with the list other than Sam’s omission.
Also what is Billy Vunipola doing on this list ahead of Sean O’Brien, beggars belief
His chances will be hampered by injury. Absent for 1st game, off early vs England.
He also made little impact vs. Wales. Awesome game against Scotland but that’s not reflective of an entire championship.
Vunipola was England’s best forward (or one of) in pretty much every match.
Cant agree with you there, as much as it cauls me have to say that Coles was probably the best of the english forwards through out the championship.
Sean O’Brien didn’t really light up the pitch until his brilliant performance against Scotland, where as Billy Vunipola has been arguably the most consistently effective 8 in the competition.
For me in terms of consistent performances it has to go to Alun-Wyn Jones, Jonny Gray or Dan Biggar.
I would love someone to explain the issues with Billy v, cuz all you get is people knocking him without any explanation.
Consistently at the top end of tackles made, always the most willing carrier and has become a real nuisance at the breakdowns. Maybe he could offload more but Id challenge you to find someone else who makes metres with two men man marking him.
This is not to knock Sean as he is a great player and it it’s great to see him leave his injuries behind. Just want some reasons given rather than jumping on bandwagon
So do we agree this is a flawed system? Statisticians – Head in oven – Feet in freezer – overall you are ok. Load of bollocks – We all know Wayne Barnes should get the award.
PHEW! PHEW!
They don’t call me honest DDD for nothing

How did Henshaw get in this list hes not even in my top 10 Irish players in the tournament.
Take out his one try against England which wasn’t exactly spectacular and what exactly did he contribute
It’s between JJ, POC, Hogg and Youngs for me.
Sam Warburton. Do not care what any stats say – they don’t measure what is important to me. Led from the front, drove his team to excellence when backs were against the wall, keeps getting better. Still no. 1 choice for Lions captain.
Out of this cold, calculated list I’d choose O’Connel
* just realised I have been consistently spelling his name with one l and an Irish friend of mine swears this signifies some difference in that O’Connel with one l would be far less classy than one with two?
Agree Warburton should be on the list, far
Agree warBurton should be on the list, far from sure he is the out and out winner: there have been some fine players this year.
Also not sure he would hands down be lions captain- he couldn’t get Wales back on track in the second half against England! but then robshaw couldn’t do any different against Ireland!
He had a great tourney but so did others.
I’d be more than happy with Warburton as Lions captain. Just as long as no English players are involved. We’ll have our own tour to focus on, without having to worry about losing players to a pointless money making tour, that InZid will win 3-0.
Between POC and Youngs for me, head and shoulders the most influential player for each of the two “best” sides in my opinion. Harsh on quite a few of the Welsh lads but I feel they didn’t have one player who was clear cut their most influential. Warburton, AWJ and Biggar all had sterling championships though. How Parisse made the shortlist over the former is utterly beyond me.
Guess because I’m English, and because of his brace of tries and hatrick of assists against the best defence in the tournament, I’ll vote Youngs.
Youngs for me. Has drifted into some really consistant form in recent outings and had a hand in most things in most games. Why Lancs took him off against France baffles me.
Was it a fitness issue? Most games he only manages an hour
No, I think it’s Lancs maximising the the position by adding fresh legs and intensity in a key position. So if that’s the case, why doesn’t he do the same for Cips. I think Lancs interprets Cips as someone who carries baggage from his adolesant days and doesn’t trust him to manage the game. In that case why have him there at all. I really think he just waiting for Farrell, who’s got a fair bit in the bank.
Warburton or Youngs for me, and since Warbuton didn’t make the list I went Youngs. Great to see him fully back in pre-Lions form.
So its Hogg for me.
He was excellent throughout the tournament in a team that became gradually worse, and even when he wasn’t excellent, he managed to affect the ultimate table by not putting the ball down.
