Aviva Premiership 2016/17 Predictions: Round 5

Aviva Trophy

There were three ‘Huge Upsets’ on SuperBru’s upsetometer last weekend – Newcastle beating Gloucester at Kingsholm, Quins beating Saracens at home and Worcester drawing with Sale. Let’s hope for an easier time this round.

Bristol v Saracens

Things are not looking too good for Bristol after three heavy defeats in a row, and this weekend they face the European Champions. It has to be Sarries, but by how many?

They have lost their home games by 22 and 24 points respectively, so let’s go for Saracens by 23.

SuperBru Community: Saracens by 19.53 | Paddy Power: Saracens -24

Northampton v Exeter

The Saints have lost both of their home matches so far this season, to Bath and Wasps, and Exeter have won three of the last four matches between these sides.

That said, I’m still looking at Northampton to win this one, in what should be a decent game at Franklins Gardens. Northampton by 2.

SuperBru Community: Exeter by 2.97 | Paddy Power: Northampton -2.5

Sale v Leicester

I used to think it was safe to back the Sharks at home, but they lost comfortably to Gloucester and haven’t been convincing yet this season.

Sale have beaten Leicester in their last two meetings, but on paper, the Tigers look stronger to me. Leicester by 4.

SuperBru Community: Leicester by 7.21 | Paddy Power: Leicester -1

Gloucester v Bath

Surely you can’t lose at home to Newcastle one week, and then beat Bath the next? But Gloucester are so unpredictable that it wouldn’t be hugely surprising.

Bath’s great start to the season came undone at Welford Road last week, but I think they’ll get back on track at Kingsholm against their West Country enemies. Bath by 7.

SuperBru Community: Bath by 7.28 | Paddy Power: Bath -1

Wasps v Harlequins

Quins’ season could really get going if they can back up their win over Sarries with a victory in Coventry. Will Cipriani’s head be down after another snub by Eddie Jones?

It’s hard to bet against the home side here though after their unbeaten start, including impressive victories at both Welford Road and Franklins Gardens. Wasps by 8

SuperBru Community: Wasps by 11.09 | Paddy Power: Wasps -11
.
Worcester v Newcastle

Not exactly a thriller to round off the weekend, and it won’t get a look-in on TV ahead of the Ryder Cup.

They can’t keep clocking up draws at home. Worcester by 2.

SuperBru Community: Newcastle by 1.47 | Paddy Power: Worcester -3
