As you know by now, we are hilarious, and you should be following us on Facebook and Twitter. Google+ seems like a waste of time, so no need to worry about that.
After reading your blog for the first time tonight, I have no doubt that many people will be bad mouthing the All Blacks despite their comeback after a wonderful display by the Pumas.
But here’s my dilemma… (Not that it pertains to tonight’s game) Why is every other team in the world allowed to lose a game except the ABs? According to many, the ABs never lose.. they ‘choke’. I see that as being very disrespectful to the opposition – who, it would seem, could never actually beat the ABs on their own merit. Well I disagree. Anybody can be beaten by a better team on the day. The ABs included. We (as in NZ) can cope with that… Why can’t anybody else? Sometimes the ABs just aren’t good enough. When England lose, nobody says they choke. And apparently SA or Australia don’t choke either. They all ‘lose’… But when it’s the ABs on the receiving end, it’s not a loss. Double standards I think.
I think it’s more that the AB’s are so dominant in the sport that a lose for them is usually a blip, ie doesn’t generally cause a streak and they recover well the next game, when the rest of us lose a game it often starts a trend or sidelines 1 or 2 starters, NZ pick up and get on with it better than anyone else.
With that said, although they came under pressure and came unstuck they recovered well in the end. Puma’s did a great job of getting stuck in and it took NZ a while to correct themselves. Big credit to Puma’s for there first half, but equally just as much credit for NZ for sorting themselves out and not dwelling on it.
Sorry but I can’t let Macaw’s foul go unremarked. Thank God the cameras caught the “great man” In the act and he got pinged. Yes he’s a great player and no ,I’m not naïve but doing that in the pre eminent rugby competition in front of impressionable young players was insulting to the game and the tournament.
Cue the steaming indignation and self righteous guff of every All Black fan everywhere. It’s ok,we’re used to it.
The annoying thing is, much as I love how nz play rugby and I think to myself what a great team they are, you then get kiwis on blogs like this telling us we can’t criticise their team and Hansen criticises the crowd for booing MaCaw after what was a blatant and cynical foul, and I then end up thinking, you know what, I’m going to support anyone who plays them, because I can’t stand that sort of sanctimonious claptrap. Get over it.
