Really thought after Wales scored the try that they would go on to win, and for once my pettiness over not wanting to see any other 6n side out do England was put to one side and really hoped you would do it.
It is amazing how one mistake can set up a chain of events to change the course of a match. For England it was when Farrell missed touch from the sin bin penalty. NZ then went on to play near flawless rugby for the next 10 minutes to take the game away from England. Here I felt it was Halfpenny ‘ s strange decision to run the ball, squandering the excellent turnover Wales had secured. After that everything seemed to fall apart?
“Really thought after Wales scored the try that they would go on to win, and for once my pettiness over not wanting to see any other 6n side out do England was put to one side and really hoped you would do it.” That’s sort of how I felt at that moment as an Irish fan too, but a different mindset to you probably. My feeling was that Wales didn’t deserve the respect they think they did after losing 10 in a row to Australia. It looks bad, and is disappointing. England – personally – they’re a bunch of toffs and old chaps, can’t ever really back them, unless they modern up a bit, and lose the chip on their shoulder (people like u Benjit..) But when I saw Roberts panting and the Welsh players just gave it everything, they won me over right then. I was right behind them at 13-10 and really hoping they’d do it. Was a bit gutted with the crappy luck they had but I still think there are serious question marks about them in the last 20 minutes of a game. If they can sort that out, they can start to beat the big boys – NZ and Aus. They are already well capable of beating the rest – France, Ireland, England, SA, & Argentina.
I was heartbroken; the bounce of that ball just landing perfectly for NZ and you could see an drain instantly and everything went wrong. I was wondering if the ball had bounced differently would wales have kept pushing and held the win? Oh well; guess it’s next year
I really thought I was going to witness history as up until lydiate was sub I truly believe Wales where the best team. This and then the following subsitutions destroyed the whole balance of the Welsh team. Yes Halfpenny descion to run was bizarre but for me it was not the reason behind another year of hurt. Gatlin’s strange sudsitution, Mike Phillips present on the pitch are the overwhelming factors for this painful, painful loss.
As a Kiwi I congratulate Wales on a great effort. Fantastic defence for 65 min. Growing up in the 60’s, 70’s Wales were NZ’s greatest opposition. Brilliant backs the equal if not better than today’s crop, including the All Blacks. Hard forwards and fantastic to watch whoever you supported. Was there for NZ Maoris v Wales in the 80’s. Maoris lost but what a place and what great people. Sadly for NH teams at the moment you need to change your mindset to winning ( by scoring more tries) and stop talking about it. Although NZ has a self belief they , at least the players, rarely if ever talk themselves up. They tend to talk about performance. In a way, for us, a win by Wales might have been of more benefit to us, as then NH media would have written us off before next World Cup and we might have snuck in under cover. Anyway good luck to Wales in the Six Nations and The WC unless you meet us.
Yet another ‘gallant defeat’. Had quite enough of these against the SH teams.
So much for SW’s promise that ‘Wales would make history’.
Yeah…right….. 30 consecutive defeats to the SH top 3-another run AI series of losses. Again.
Tickets 4 for a £1 to see Wales lose again the Boks?
Outscored 5 tries to 1 at HOME
How on earth is that progress??
Take heart guys, Wales have been unlucky. As a Bok supporter I don’t relish this weekend. If Wales play like this they will beat us as the Boks looked weary against Italy, now is your time, good luck. It will be good for us to loose we need a wake up call !!
SA are really not that good. I enjoyed the beating you got against Ireland. It was wrong you got that consolation try at the end. Should have lost by 15. Wales can indeed beat you this weekend if they man up and stop bottling it.
Never forget we beat the All Blacks fair a square and deserved to beat them in New Zealand as well, when you get to do that then you can talk.
Don’t think I’ve ever seen the kiwis drop as many passes as in this game. The first half was just error after error and Barrett didn’t look particularly good
Last 20 mins was something else altogether though and clearly demonstrates why they are the best team in the world.
Praise for Biggar’s defence by the way, other than being bumped once by Savea (no shame in that), I thought he was superb
Also, why was Webb taken off? I really hope he was injured
