Six Nations 2017: Italy v Wales Prediction

Wales

I’m not a huge fan of Sunday games, nor any game involving Italy to be honest, and my interest in this match will mainly be Fantasy Rugby based.

Superbru‘Statmanjohn’ commented earlier in the week that the Bonus Point rules could be a disaster for Italy, because every team will be going full-throttle for 80 minutes. I hadn’t thought of this, but it’s a valid consideration.

I’m hoping Conor O’Shea will make the Azzurri more competitive and more exciting to watch, although I’m slightly surprised at his team selection with Luke Mclean in the centre and Michele Campagnaro on the bench.

The Wales teamsheet is fairly disappointing after the promise of their initial squad selection. What better match to give Sam Davies a run, and maybe Thomas Young too? It says to me that Rob Howley will play a conservative game because his reputation can’t afford to lose to Italy, and we might see some width if it’s not too close in the last quarter.

I expect it will be fairly comfortable for Wales. Yes Italy beat South Africa in November, but then promptly lost to Tonga at home, so surely Wales won’t come unstuck.

SuperbruMy prediction: Wales by 16

Average Superbru Prediction: Wales by 12.67

  1. I’m going for Italy by 3. New team, new coach, at home against a Welsh team still trying to figure out who they are.
