Victor Matfield must retire????
I agree. He messed it all up at the end
Jip i totally agree, but really the Ref made a lot of mistakes and i just could not understand what language he tried to spoke to the players.
Absolutely. Sin bin for offsides, none for a tackle from behind on a man who did not have the ball?
Sin non for offsides ??
Sorry: sin bin for offsides ??
I think he’s referring to Kaino’s?? In which case the sin bin was less for offside and more for the cynical kicking away of the ball
The Boks played well but there is no gas in the backs and they never looked like scoring a try.Tries win matches not territory the All Blacks scored 2 and deserved to win. Looking forward to tomorrow think hope Argentina can upset the Aussies
Not convinced by New Zealand. On that performance Wales and Scotland would have beaten them
god i thought that us in ireland were bad for living in dream land but the’ scots ans welsh would have beaten new zeland’? get real who ever you are and stop making silly comments about rugby , the combined scots, irish, welsh, english, french , would all have struggled to beat them in fairness and that is fact , look the irish were knocked out of the world cup because they were not good enough to beat the opposition on the day and we accept that , even the english and french in fairness are aware of their own failings , but the scots and welsh continue to live in some sort of dream land.
The point I was trying purvey is that on that performance that they are beatable and not a shoehorn to retain the World Cup
The welsh aren’t living in dreamland, we just feel hard done by at the unfortunate loss of their attackers through injury, I would be surprised if we didn’t reach the semis with the likes of scott and liam williams in the backs and maybe a different winger. The scots though haven’t shown anything for 15 years, and they were gifted a qf place by a ref, and a ref nearly gifted them a semi(joubert gave many more points to them than against), but no, neither team would beat the blacks, even in top form. But to have 6 injured 13s and 3 injured fullbacks and still flying the flag of the NH, I think its a bit disgusting for you to say that.
johne – “A” Welsh person has made that statement, can you leave all the “the welsh” crap out that just gives you an excuse to peddle your prejudices? In no way at all do “the welsh” think we’d have won that. Some welsh people might, some Irish people think they were robbed against SA (by the scheduling and the SOB suspension – and yes, I have had Irish people tell me that) but I wouldn’t come out with “the Irish…” etc.
Are you kidding ?
Don’t think so big dia ….. Both Wales and Scotland aren’t that good….. NZ Maori team will be better as well.
Did what they had to… & Wales and Scotland AREN’T there.
Good game, SA just could not sustain the tempo of the first 20 minutes or they might have done enough. For some reason this game didn’t excite me like tomorrow is doing, I really think the Pumas might pull off a shock.
Perhaps its because I am a neutral but I found that game pretty underwhelming. Certainly there have been more intense and exciting games. The SA v Wales game was edge of the seat stuff. Ire vs Arg was also a great game as was SA v Japan of course. I think the dominance of NZ means that games are not quite as nailbiting as you kinda know they will win it in the end. They are class of course but it gets rather predictable.
Close quarter battles-even. Goal kicking-South Africa. Tactical kicking out of hand-All Blacks.
Will to win-even.
All Blacks ill discipline could have cost them, instead it was Bryan Habana that cost his side 5 points (rekicked conv. and points while in the sinbin).
In the cold light of day the ABs were in the driving seat for the majority of that match. SA, massive in defence offered nothing in offence and New Zealand and South Africa new that wasn’t going to change, so the result was inevitable. Their focus has got stronger and stronger throughout this tournament. I cannot see any one beating them. They will win this World Cup at a canter. However if you play them In 2 years time minus Smith, Nonu, Carter, Macaw, Mealamu, Read and Woodcock, they will have lost a generation of excellence that Kane, Cole e.t.c won’t have earned yet( if you watch the Rugby Championship, both Nonu and Smith showed poor form over the last 2 years. However right now they are right back at their best-World beaters- I predict this will dissipate over the next two years ) and they will be a lot easier to beat.
Think Etzebeth was unlucky to be penalised to give the ABs the lead. He did nothing that had not been done throughout this and other games
Also I cannot believe how badly the ABs were allowed to stray offside – particularly in the last 20 mins or so – there seems to be one offside line for the blacks and another for everyone else
Despite that, SA did not deserve to win. They reminded me of the Wales Aus game. Wales with the chances but without the ability and speed of thought to score, just the constant bashing away at a defense that knows what’s coming
Scotland was surpose to play in Semi final today against Australia sorry to say but that was also a Ref’s decission. South Africa were the under dog’s yesterday they deserved to win NZ but what happen the Ref, Johne please go and learn your Ref book or play the game yourself you dont know what you are talking about
Great match by South Africa, they just missed by a tiny margin of 2 points.
In the last 8 minutes, they had twice the ball for a line out, could have scored a try or a drop goal but, strangely, got beaten, for the first time, in the maul.
new Zealand: not very good, sterile in face of a real defence, but have a good bench to compensate for lack of talent in this match.
You’re kidding!bar an immaculate conception the AB’s will win the final. They have an extra day to recover too. Things have worked well for them (everything event by their own sweat and tears)
We definitely do live in a dream land half the time as Johne says
Elliot how can you say a “Great” match by the ‘Boks. They played to instructions from management and thereby lost the game. The AB’s were far superior in all facets of the game. 60% possession and 75% territory. No plan B when plan A did not work.
PhilipMetter 100% correct but we will still surport our Team SA. I could also say this WC was a Good one. Wish i could get my son in to play for Japan, England or any other team in South Africa there are no future anymore. Sad to say.
I usually don’t mind the tense, penalty driven affairs but there was very little tension in this one due to NZ knowing if they just kicked it back then SA would do nothing with it. They were even less adventurous than they were against us. Such a shame – they have some quality backs but didn’t use them at all. Pretty dull game as the result never really seemed in doubt despite the close score. SA played the last 20 looking for a penalty and never got the one they needed. Dull.
NZ kicked too much. Scored the 2 tries that mattered though & SA couldn’t score any.
To an extent the ref kept SA in it with the pen count. Perhaps the W Champs don’t understand the rules, but hey, 6 to 1 pen count @ 1 point? Thought he also told the Saffas to get out of the ruck a number of times instead of just pinging them, but hey again, maybe I’m just whingeing. Also ain’t playing the ball on deck illegal?
An ugly win all the same with the scoreline unnecessarily close I thought.
The ‘Boks had absolutely no idea of how to win that game. If they were playing to management instructions, Meyer and his team should have been shot on Sunday at dawn. If they were given license to play it as they saw it on the field, then there is not a single drop of brain power in the match 23. This style of “KRAGDADIGHEID does not and will not work against well organised, powerful defences. TG we were not playing the Aussies. We would have been thumped by 20 points or more. On what I saw of the AB’s Aus to win the final by by 15 points.
