Rugby Championship 2016: Round 4 Predictions

RugbyThe Rugby Championship continues, and it’s the Springboks’ turn to face the All Blacks.

New Zealand v South Africa

The All Blacks have not lost a home Test in 40-something matches, and they won’t lose this one to a Bok team that has been defeated on the road in both Argentina and Australia. So the only prediction is the winning margin.

The last four tests between these sides have been decided by 7 points or fewer, and the Springboks tend to defend for their lives and stay in contention for as long as possible. I imagine they are under instruction to do the same, but I suspect the winning margin will be more than 7 this time.

My Prediction: NEW ZEALAND to beat South Africa by 18

The average SuperBru pick is New Zealand by 18, and Paddy Power has NZ by 22.

Australia v Argentina

The Pumas made life difficult for the All Blacks last weekend (but still lost by 35 points), and they’ll be eyeing up a victory on Australian soil. However, the Wallabies’ victory over South Africa last weekend will have given them much-needed confidence, and the apparent return to form of Bernard Foley will be key.

I find it hard to predict how the Pumas will fare, but I’m going for the home team again in this one.

My Prediction: AUSTRALIA to beat Argentina by 8

The average SuperBru pick is Australia by 5, and Paddy Power has Australia by 10.

  1. The margin between the Springboks and the All Blacks could prove to be larger than an 18 point range. The Springboks have made a few changes to their team like bring in Marx, the lions #2 (who’s probably been the in-form player in his position in South Africa all year) and upgrade Pieter-Steph Du Toit (who’s played a bigger role in 20 minutes coming off the bench than players who’ve started) These are all good moves that are sadly been done way too late. The All Blacks are a machine that’s already kicked up to 5th gear whilst the Bok machine still requires volunteers to give it a push. This might turn out to be a very sad match. Very sad indeed.
