  1. Abject. I can well understand the Welsh delight at winning as it keeps the tournament alive for them but in all honesty this was a very poor game The right team won however. Wales had a plan, executed it well, stood up to the French heavyweights and showed far greater intent.

France are shambolic. We live in a world of hyperbole ,particularly In regard to International sport but the fact that today was the first time they have scored a try against Wales in five games is truly astounding. France have long been schizophrenic but the madness was always balanced with mesmerism. Now there is only the mundane.
They still have players who can conjour something out of nothing but not the bravery or self belief to try it.

  2. And I wonder who’s to blame Teecee……? I’m afraid I agree with you. To be honest, it didn’t look as if Wales really broke sweat today; as usual, they get better as the tournament progresses, and this match was an almost exact replica of the one two years ago. France have some wonderful players, but they are completely caught between the Bastareaud approach and their innate desire to play the game properly. Will PS-A survive till the World Cup? Looking increasingly unlikely.

  3. A limited, negative team executing smartly and bravely under pressure, against 15 exciting attacking players who had never met each other, and thought the game was on tomorrow.

Delighted with a well-deserved, gutsy win. Under no illusions otherwise.

  4. Dire. Two teams with the players to light up the tournament and game plans designed to limit them. Not a good one for the neutral. Wouldn’t pay to watch either of these teams at the moment. Wales won and were the better team except when France actually tried to play rugby. Nothing more to say about this one really.

  5. Tedious game with a slightly interesting last ten minutes

What the hell was Dulin thinking when he cut back in at the end? All he had to was run straight, fix the defender and give the pass and they’d have been in. Incredibly poor

  6. Dire..poor oh yes……. that interplay leading to Biggar’s try was really dire from Webb, Lydiate + Biggar.

Winning by seven points in Paris, leading through much of the game and victory against the odds over France with their massive players and huge bench was especially dire.

This Welsh team is clearly limited as evidenced by the fact that they have now beaten France 4 times running in the Championship.

Had it been England with 4 consecutive wins over France we would hear game plan, exact execution, building a legacy,…..rugged defence,……Dunkirk spirit…. stout hearts of oak…..blah ……blah…….

    • Take a chill pill Enoch! No one is denigrating the Welsh performance. They did what they had to do and did it well.
Most of the comments on here are touching on the overall quality of the game and the awful mess that France are In right now.

Heirath is a wonderful thing. Just think ,you could be French!

  7. Biggar does seem to be the best option for Wales now, no question he’s earned his shot. Wales showed how to win without many of their backs in any sort of form. Lucky for them Roberts is playing well. It’s not showing anything new, I can’t say the Wales team played better, but they are well drilled, and Lydiate’s offload was wonderful – I’ve never seen him do anything like that before!

I just can;t see France as having a chance against any other big teams in the world right now. They can’t put more than 5-10 minutes of half decent rugby together without connecting the lot with a bunch of dopey play and easy penalties.

A disappointing game, but Wales showed again what a tough side they are.

  8. Enoch. You won and if you want to accept the fare from Wales that was on offer, that is up to you. Personally when England have played as limited a game as this in the past, I have not been happy with it. Maybe relieved to get a win, but not happy. If you think that you have got a hope of doing well in the RWC playing like this, dream on. One good pass by Lydiate doesn’t make this a good game by Wales. Both teams played most of the game with no invention or flair at all. Even Italy have more invention at the moment. The Welsh game plan seems to be bosh it up the middle until someone misses a tackle. England have been pilloried over the past few seasons for doing that with Tuilagi and rightly so. Predictable, boring rugby. Can’t see the SH teams quaking in their boots.

    • Staggy

As the Son of Man is reputed to have said

‘Remove the plank from your own eye before you remove the splinter from the eye of your neighbour’

Otherwise translated from the original Aramaic

‘Win three Grand Slams and an additional 6n title in 10 years b 4 you slag off other nations who have done the exactly that…. oh and do so with a national population of 3 million not 60 million plus all your colonial mercenaries’

  9. Obviously happy wales got the win as it keeps them in; hoping Ireland get the win today so Wales still have a say in the outcome (ie beat Ireland then rack up score against Italy – if Ireland lose today it’s Englands tournament to lose as opposed to Wales tournament to win)

Although despite that; I felt it was poor from both sides; some sparks of good play but not a game worth recording. I still feel hibbard should of played the full 80 he might have had more success stopping the forward play a bit more; I felt Roberts was key that guy just kept going over the gainline; definitely man of the match for me.

  10. A match that Wales always looked like winning from the first whistle. Wales will need to up their performance to beat Ireland. Ireland’s championship to lose.

  11. If I were a neutral the thing I’d have been most impressed with in this game were the scrums! I don’t think one was reset in the first half and there were only a handful of penalties or resets in the second.

  12. It was a convincing win. That’s probably all you can say. It also means that we still have a chance of winning the championship. But if we play that aerial bombardment/Roberts up the middle, kind of game against the Irish, we’re going to come away second best. The Irish team against England showed a lot more intent and creativity, apart from that rolling maul nonsense. How is that still allowed? It’s as interesting to watch as a continually collapsing scrum.
